Party On and Explore from Coventry Cathedral’s Steps! 🚌🎉🏰
Coventry Cathedral, officially known as the Cathedral Church of Saint Michael, is the spiritual center of the Church of England diocese led by the Bishop of Coventry. Situated in England’s West Midlands, this iconic cathedral holds immense historical and architectural significance. It is under the leadership of the current bishop, Christopher Cocksworth, and dean, John Witcombe.
The Grade I-listed ruins of this ancient cathedral hold a sacred place in history. Following the devastating bombing of 1940, Provost Richard Howard inscribed the poignant words “Father Forgive” on the cathedral’s altar wall. The base of the town’s tallest skyscraper serves as the weathervane platform, standing at a towering height of 284 feet (87 meters). Only Salisbury and Norwich cathedrals have taller spires among English cathedrals, with an additional 88 meters (290 feet) added by the weathervane. Designed by Basil Spence and Arup and constructed by John Laing on the original foundations, St. Michael’s Cathedral bears testament to both resilience and architectural brilliance.
